6 Piece Pyrex Glass Test Tube Set with Caps and Rack Review

When I purchased this rack + tube set I felt it was a good value. The test tube rack looked of teflon/delrin construction, I knew it was made of white plastic but it looked better than just cheap white plastic. The test tubes seemed good as they were Pyrex made and came with their corresponding rubber stoppers.

My expectations I suppose were high. When I received the rack, I received two pieces of plastic (which were warped by the way), 8x plastic pegs, and 6x test tube w/ 6x rubber stoppers.

The rack overall was of cheap build, the plastic material was not itself an issue, rather two points. The pegs fit poorly into their slots, and the top portion of the rack was warped likely by heat. As stated in other reviews, yes the rack is a bit large for only holding 6x tubes.

The test tubes themselves are thin. This may or may not be boroscillicate glass, there is no insignia to verify it's material or that it is indeed Pyrex glass. I do know however that they are no more durable than the standard no-name culture tubes I buy in bulk. Two tubes broke a week of receiving them, and I did not apply much force at all. One broke simply from me placing a rubber stopper snugly in it's opening.

It wasn't a tough loss, so I didn't return it. But I would not buy this again. Test tubes are cheap, what I wanted this for was the rack and the stoppers. The rack turned out to a disappointment. I am now shopping again for another rack.
