My husband and I both suffer lower back pain while standing for long periods of time. We first placed it between the sink and the island to use at both areas. But, at times, we're doing food prep between the island and the stove. So at first we were moving the mat from side to side as needed. However, that doesn't help when both of us are working in the kitchen at the same time.

So, even though it will cover up more of our beautiful tile floor, I'm buying a second mat to have one on each side of the island. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MAT. It so happens that the dimensions (24" by 36") are perfect for our custom made island, too.
